Citrix PVS BlueScreen after VMware Tools Update

Citrix PVS BlueScreen after VMware Tools Update

After the update of the VMware tools it can happen that the master image runs into a blue screen.

The reason for this are hidden devices in the device manager.
To work around the problem do NOT restart the Server after installing the VMWare tools. Instead remove the hidden devices directly in the device manager.
After that, the master image should boot as usual.

Step by Step:

1. Boot vDisk in Maintenaince Mode
2. Set environment variable: SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
3. Add additional E1000 NIC using the same virtual Network as the VMXNET3
4. Wait until the VM has installed the drivers and add a IP Address to the new interface.
5. Disconnect all VMXNET3 NICs and unplug the Cables
6. Update VMWare Tools but do NOT reboot after finishing installation
7. Reconnect all VMXNET3 NICs and plugin the Cables
8. Remove the E1000 NIC
9. Remove the remaining E1000 nonpresend device from Device Manager
10. Reboot
